Education and Career History

YAN Jun has a BS in astrophysics from Nanjing University in 1982 and a PhD in astrophysics from Purple Mountain Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1994. He had been a research scientist in the research institute ever since and was appointed as Professor in astrophysics in 1998. He was Director-General of Purple Mountain Observatories of CAS from 2000-2007. And he has been Director-General of National Astronomical Observatories of CAS since 2007.

Research Fields

Prof. YAN Jun is a scientist in astronomy and astrophysics, in particular, stellar molecular cloud and star formation such as Herbig-haro observation and theoretical research as well. He has taken charge a numerous of research projects supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Submilimeter spectroscopic study on the formation and evolution of stars; Site survey and observation on the Antarctic Dome A, and Survey study and observation on Herbig-haro.
