Suijian Xue received his BS degree in astronomy from Nanjing University in 1987 and PhD in astrophysics from University of Science and Technology of China in 1996. He spent three years from 1997 to 2000 conducting post-doctoral research at the Institute for Physical and Chemical Research of Japan (RIKEN) and the Beijing Astrophysics Center at Peking University ( co-sponsored by BAO, the Beijing Astronomical Observatory of Chinese Academy of Sciences). Xue joined in BAO as a research staff in the BATC Sky Survey Group in 2000 one year before that BAO merged into the headquarters of NAOC, namely, the National Astronomical Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has served NAOC a series of senior management positions since 2002, including the Deputy Director-General in 2013-2020. During the period, Xue has actively engaged in both bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation activities between NAOC and relevant international communities in astronomy. He is a Board Member representing NAOC in the Thirty-Meter-Telescope International Observatory, LLC，and serves as the General Manager of TMT-China project; He was one of the founding directors of the East Asian Observatory (EAO) in 2014, which has been in managing and operating the JCMT up to now. 

X-ray & multi-wavelength observations and studies on active galaxies and galaxy clusters; Science instrumentation for optical telescopes; Astronomical applications of laser guiding star facilities as well as relevant technology development of adaptive optics.  

Xue’s research interests focus on X-ray & multi-wavelength observations and studies on active galaxies and galaxy clusters. He has more than 40 refereed publications, and was, in 2002, awarded with collaborators the 1st Natural Science Prize of Tianjing Municipality for his research on “Multi-wavelength observation and study on galaxy interaction and merging process and the influence to the galaxy formation and evolution”.
