Job Description: National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC)
The National Astronomical Observatories (NAOC), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) were officially founded in 2001 by joining four CAS observatories, three CAS observing stations and one CAS research centre. Both observational astronomy and theoretical astrophysics are being actively pursued, covering diverse areas such as solar physics, stellar structure and evolution, pulsars and interstellar medium, and galaxies and cosmology. NAOC also hosts several large Chinese ground and space facilities that have recently been finished (LAMOST, 21CMA) or under construction (FAST, SVOM). NAOC has significant ties with other astronomical institutes within China and abroad.
Recruitment:
NAOC is embarking on an ambitious program to significantly strengthen and further broaden the astrophysics program. To achieve this, NAOC invites applications for faculty at all levels, open to all research areas both in theory and observations. Candidates who can utilise the large facilities, integrate with existing programs and broaden the scope of its faculty are encouraged to apply.
Outstanding applicants will be eligible to the one hundred-talent programme and one-thousand talent programme. Visitor programmes are also available for international young scientists (from one to two-years) and for senior scientists, sponsored by CAS. Outstanding postdocs and young researchers will also be considered for permanent positions after their term finishes.
RANK: Both junior and senior researcher positions will be considered.
SALARY: depending on qualifications and experience. Members/Research Scientists may also be qualified for supplemental supports from NAOC or CAS.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D., or equivalent, in Astronomy, Physics, or related field completed or expected by effective date, a demonstrated record of research excellence and potential to obtain external funding. Candidates of all nationality are encouraged to apply.
