Galaxy Forum China 2015 held in Beijing

On September 9, 2015, Galaxy Forum China 2015 was held in National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC). This forum was jointly sponsored by NAOC and the International Lunar Observatory Association (ILOA)aiming to train science teachers of primary and middle schools.

The program features the ongoing activity on the Moon via China Chang'e-3 mission, NAOC Lunar Ultraviolet Telescope (LUT), and the future robotic and crewed missions of ILOA to conduct Astronomy and science education from the South Pole of the Moon.

In the forum, NAOC scientists presented the main characteristics of lunar based optical telescope, calibration results, surface working condition and the preliminary scientific results, including the image of nearby galaxy M101 and its star forming regions, the unprecedented constraint on water content in the sunlit lunar exosphere seen by LUT, the data reduction and analysis for the data from LUT. And the invited speakers from ILOA and University of Hawaii presented the possibility to observe and study galaxies from moon, the future robotic and crewed missions of ILOA to conduct Astronomy and science education from the South Pole of the Moon. The ILOA, pursuing a series of Moon-based observatory missions to complement Earth-based and Space-based astronomy, seeks to advance Galaxy Imaging for 21st century astronomy education.

More than 100 science teachers from Beijing and its surrounding areas participated the forum. They are science teachers from primary and secondary schools, university students and graduate students in astronomical community.

The forum has attracted a wide range of media interests including  Xinhua news agency, China Daily, people's daily, Xinhua, people's daily, and Haidian TV station.
