Director of Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias of Spain visited NAOC

On May 9-11 2016, Prof. R. Rebolo López, Director of Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), and Dr. R. Corradi, Deputy Director of Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC), visited National Astronomical Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences ( NAOC) at its invitation.

During the visit, Memorandum of Understanding between NAOC and IAC about Scientific and Technical Collaborations was signed, which aims to establish collaborations between the two sides in aspects as scientific research, instrumental and technical development, joint students and staffs exchange, and bilateral workshops. This is especially important for collaborations on LAMOST and GTC, including the follow-up observations for the interesting objects selected by LAMOST. The Stellar Observations Network Group (SONG) is also an important project jointly supported by NAOC and IAC. The two 1m telescopes at the Chinese and Spanish nodes are doing joint observations on variable objects.

Prof. R. Rebolo López and Dr. R. Corradi also visited Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics & Technology (NIAOT) and had extensive discussions with NIAOT about collaborations on astronomical technology and instrument developments.

This was the following-up visit by that of Ms. Carmen Vela Olmo, Secretary of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of State, who led a delegation to NAOC on 26 October 2015 during the working meeting of the Joint Committee on Science and Technology between China and Spain. This visit was coordinated and supported by the Chinese Embassy in Spain, Ministry of Science and Technology of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences as well.
