The Virtual Observatory and Astro-Informatics Research Group (VO Group) at NAOC acts as the core R&D team of Chinese Virtual Observatory (China-VO) and National Astronomical Data Center (NADC).

Virtual Observatory (VO) is a data-intensively online astronomical research and education environment, taking advantages of advanced information technologies to achieve seamless, global access to astronomical information. China-VO is the national VO project in China initiated in 2002 by Chinese astronomical community leading by National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences. China-VO became a member of the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA) in 2002.

NADC is a national science and technology resource sharing platform and a national science and technology innovation base recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China. NADC performs all duties as a National Science Data Center and a Scientific Data Center of CAS, and is responsible for the submission management, compilation and integration of astronomical scientific data, formulation of relevant standards and specifications, construction of astronomical data system, optimization and improvement of the astronomical data open service platform and multiple data services, establishment of the application platform of data mining analysis, promotion of the application of scientific data in the field of astronomy, and public outreach and international collaboration.

The VO group is dedicated to VO technology research, science platform design and development, data driven education and public outreach. The astronomical science platform incorporates data and computing resource, providing a series of resources and services including observation proposal, data query and download, HPC and cloud computing, education and public outreach projects, which helps leading astronomy research into a new era of data intensive scientific discovery. The China-VO is a leading science platform in Astronomy.
