Institution: National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC)
Responsibilities:
1. Scientific Goal Demonstration and Optimization: Participate in the top-level design and dynamic optimization of the scientific objectives of the 14.5-meter telescope. Help to integrate international frontier research directions and systematically identify observational requirements and technical bottlenecks, assist in optimizing observation strategies and instrument configuration plans to ensure the international competitiveness and breakthrough potential of scientific outputs.
2. International Collaboration Network Development: Lead the planning for participation in relevant international astronomical conferences to systematically showcase the scientific potential of the 14.5-m telescopes to enhance their global visibilities. Assist in the promotion of bilateral/multilateral collaborations with other existing international telescopes and networks (e.g. GTC, SALT, and VLT) through the establishment of potential joint observation programmes and help to define data-sharing agreements to integrate China’s telescopes into the global observation network and secure first-access rights to high-impact scientific results. Assist the 14.5-meter Optical-Infrared Telescope Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) in establishing international connections, engaging in exchanges and collaborations with major foreign observatories and research institutes, and enhancing the international influence of the 14.5-meter telescope.
3. Talent Training and International Standard Setting: Help to identify the local team’s lack of experience in operating and maintaining a 10-meter-class telescope by identifying and implementing practical training systems covering critical operational scenarios. Participate in developing observational data standards compliant with International Astronomical Union guidelines to ensure seamless integration with international data centers and Virtual Observatories and improve global data utilization.
4. Global Promotion of Science Education Products: Participate in programmes to help leverage resources from the National Astronomical Observatories for international promotion, attracting global astronomers and youth groups to participate and cultivate a potential user community.
