The radio/X-ray correlation in black-hole binaries TEXT SIZE: A A A

Wednesday, 3:00pm, Jan. 26, 2010. A601 (NAOC)

Speaker: Professor Andrzej Zdiarski (Warsaw)

Abstract: The radio flux in the hard state of black hole binaries is strongly correlated with the X-ray flux. I will discuss the dependence of this correlation on the X-ray energy and its extension to other spectral state. The results imply that the jet is formed from the relativistic electrons producing the X-ray spectrum by Comptonization, and rule out models in which the observed X-rays are emitted by the jet.
