On 1 Feb. 2016, Dr. Christopher R. Kavanag, Counselor of Environment, Science, Technology and Health (ESTH) from Embassy of the United States of America visited National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC). The Deputy Directors-General of NAOC Prof. Suijian Xue and Prof. Chunlai Li met with Dr. Kavanag and his colleagues from ESTH, Drs. Dwain D. Atkinson and Shi Wenming.
In the meeting, Prof. Suijian Xue introduced the basic status of NAOC, including scientific facilities, programs, projects and international collaborations, especially the collaborations with United States, such as the 30-meter optical and infrared telescope, TMT, the “Chinese and American 10+10 University Presidents Forum in Astronomy” and other relevant plans. Both sides had detailed discussions during the meeting. They agreed to promote more collaborations in Astronomy between China and the United States.Some relevant scientists from NAOC joined the meeting.
Dr. Kavanag and his colleagues also visited the models of Guoshoujing Telescope (LAMOST) and the ancient astronomical facility, Su Song Astronomical clock-tower.
