On July 17, 2017, Dr. Tieniu Tan, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hongkong Special administrative Region, headed a delegation of Presidents from Hongkong universities and Liaison office officials visited the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) operated by National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC).
During the visit, Prof. Jun Yan, Director-General of NAOC, hosted the meeting and extended a warm welcome to the delegation. Prof. Xiaonian Zheng, Deputy Director-General of NAOC, made a brief introduction of FAST. Further discussions were carried out on scientific collaborations between Hongkong and the Mainland over major national infrastructure, such as FAST, and expect that it will further promote astronomical cooperation between the two sides including joint young students training, observations and researches.
The delegation also visited the FAST site and were briefed about the mechanism and technical details of its active reflectors and feed core cabin. Shuo Shi, Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of NAOC, also joined the meeting.
