Dynamics and control of a solar collector system for near Earth object deflection TEXT SIZE: A A A

Near Earth objects are solid bodies whose orbits cross Earth's orbit, making them a potential hazard for impacting Earth. If an asteroid threatens to impact Earth, people will want to deflect the asteroid's path so as to avoid the collision. This article proposes a method of deflecting the asteroid by using mirrors to redirect sunlight onto the asteroid's surface, which causes gasses to boil off its surface and propel the asteroid away from its hazardous course.
