Many galaxies show winding structures with spiral arms twisting around their center. The tightness of these galaxies' coiled spiral arms gives astronomers insight into how these galaxies formed and evolved. This article surveys the winding spiral structures of a sample of galaxies near our own galaxy, adding to the knowledge base about galactic evolution theory.
