The astrophysical gravitational wave stochastic background TEXT SIZE: A A A
Scientists theorize that gravitational waves arise from the orbits of massive bodies and from mass ejections in titanic astronomical explosions. Scientists also believe that gravitational waves ripple through the universe in all directions. This article describes the predicted properties of these gravitational waves, with a focus on their background signal. Astronomers can use these properties, which are derived from the Theory of Relativity, to aid in the search for gravitational waves.
