BO37 is a globular cluster in the galaxy M31. Globular clusters are approximately spherically shaped groupings of stars located outside the main disks of their host galaxy. Recent images showed that BO37 has a dust lane crossing it, which is unusual because astronomers believe dust requires the presence of metals, but globular clusters have little metal content. This article studies the light coming from BO37 to try and better understand if the observed dust lane is really part of this globular cluster or it simply happens to be in the same direction from our perspective.
