Our Universe is expanding and, according to observational data of distant objects, accelerating its expansion. It is difficult for astronomers to explain this observed acceleration with conventional models. Dark energy is one model that has been invoked to explain the observed acceleration. This article describes statistical tests which try to assess which model of Universal expansion and acceleration is best supported by observed data.
