Magnetic field changes associated with three successive M-class solar flares on 2002 July 26 TEXT SIZE: A A A
Large eruptions occur on the Sun's surface called solar flares. Astronomers think these arise from activity in the Sun's magnetic field. A satellite called SOHO has recorded images of the Sun and astronomers can examine these kinds of images taken during a solar flare looking for interactions between the eruption and the Sun's magnetic field. This article describes a kind of study using SOHO images which helps astronomers gain a better understanding of dynamic processes in the Sun's atmosphere.
