Stellar kinematics and populations out to 1.5 effective radii in the elliptical galaxy NGC 4636 TEXT SIZE: A A A
Galaxies have enormous collections of stars spanning vast distances. This article describes a study which observed the spectra from galaxy NGC 4636 and compared the results with those expected from stellar population theory, finding that this galaxy contains old populations of stars. The results of this study help astronomers better understand how stellar populations in a galaxy develop and evolve.
