Serendipitous discovery of warm absorbers in the Seyfert 2 galaxy IRAS 18325–5926 TEXT SIZE: A A A
Seyfert galaxies are collections of stars and gas. The nuclei of Seyfert galaxies show signs of explosive outbursts. Seyfert 1 type galaxies commonly have collections of warm gas which block x-ray emission, called warm absorbers, but Seyfert 2 type galaxies have been believed to not have this type of warm material. This article describes the discovery of a warm absorber in a Seyfert 2 galaxy, marking a change in the previously known trend.
