Periodic orbits around areostationary points in the Martian gravity field TEXT SIZE: A A A
In the future, more robotic probes will be sent to the surface of Mars. In order to better communicate with those probes, satellites will have to stay in stationary orbits over the same point on the Martian surface, called an areostationary point, and relay signals to Earth. This article describes the properties of these Martian aerostationary orbits and how stable they are at different locations, potentially helping researchers better plan future exploration missions to Mars.
