Investigation of Io’s auroral hiss emissions due to its motion in Jupiter’s magnetosphere TEXT SIZE: A A A

Io is a moon of Jupiter. Jupiter has a large, powerful magnetic field, and as Io orbits around Jupiter, erupting material from the moon's surface interacts with the magnetic field, producing radio emissions. This article studies these radio emissions and tries to better understand their properties by making a comparison with the well-studied case of interactions between Earth's magnetic field and its atmosphere. The results of this article can help astronomers better understand this complex topic.
