An active reflector antenna using a laser angle metrology system TEXT SIZE: A A A
Maintaining the proper shape of a radio reflector during astronomical observations is a major challenge, since these telescopes generally flex and bend as they track targets. This article describes the prototype of a newly constructed radio telescope that observes in millimeter wavelengths and which actively maintains its surface shape through mechanical means, leading to better observational capability. This innovation can help astronomers better utilize observing opportunities.
