X-ray spectroscopy of clusters of galaxies TEXT SIZE: A A A
Hot gas permeates the space between galaxies. This gas is so hot that it emits X-rays, and astronomers can discover properties of this gas and the dynamics of galaxy clusters by studying the associated radiation. This article summarizes current research related to this type of X-ray spectroscopy, and is part of a special issue devoted to the IAU General Assembly.
