Nuclear Planetology: Especially Concerning the Moon and Mars TEXT SIZE: A A A
The composition of planetary objects gives clues about their history and evolution. This article describes developments in the study of nuclear planetology, which is the process of observing a planet using a robotic probe to measure the high-energy radiation emitted by elements in the body, and then deriving its composition. This article reviews probes that have visited planetary bodies in our solar system, especially the Moon and Mars, and highlights developments in this field.
