The effect of Compton scattering on gamma-ray spectra of the 2005 January 20 flare TEXT SIZE: A A A
The Sun's surface can exhibit large explosions that shoot radiation away into space. By studying this radiation, astronomers can learn about the properties and energies of the explosion. This article describes observing high-energy radiation from one such solar eruption, helping astronomers better understand this process.
