Quark-novae in neutron star - white dwarf binaries: a model for luminous (spin-down powered) sub-Chandrasekhar-mass Type Ia supernovae? TEXT SIZE: A A A
Some compact objects, that are remnants of binary stars, orbit around each other. Over time, their orbit can decay and they can collide, releasing a large amount of energy. This article studies cases where the orbits of binary compact objects decay, the objects collide and subsequently a large explosion occurs. The results of this study can help astronomers better understand these objects.
