The kilosecond variability of X-ray sources in nearby galaxies TEXT SIZE: A A A

As material spirals into a black hole, it becomes so hot that it can emit X-rays. By studying these X-rays emitted by material falling into a black hole, astronomers can derive properties of the system. This article describes observations of X-rays that vary over time. These observations can help astronomers better understand these systems.
