Astronomers make measurements of sizes of spiral galaxies by examining images of them. One handicap in the traditional method used to measure the thickness of spiral galaxies is that the large density of stars in their budge obscures the disk. This article introduces a new method for measuring the thickness of a spiral galaxy, giving astronomers more insight into this field of study.
