Black holes and stars can orbit around each other. If the black hole moves close enough to the star that material can flow from the star to the black hole, an outburst of high-energy radiation can occur as accreted material forms a disk around the black hole. This article studies radiation from such an outburst that happened in an accreting black hole system, helping astronomers better understand this phenomenon.
