The photosphere, chromosphere and corona of the Sun can show violent outbursts and explosions. One of the sources of violent activity arises from stresses and reconnections in the Sun's dynamic magnetic field. This article gives an overview and review of recent research related to how interactions between plasma and the Sun's magnetic field lead to outbursts of violent activity.
