Galaxies contain giant molecular clouds of material where stars can collapse and form. Observations of emission lines produced by molecules can give astronomers insight into the constituents and dynamics of these molecular clouds. This article describes observations of CO in molecular clouds that are located in different galaxies. These results can help advance this field of study.
