Astronomers are interested in Type Ia supernovae because they can be used as standard candles that are visible over large distances, but there is still a lot of uncertainty associated with these stellar explosions. This article describes a white dwarf that astronomers are studying to try to understand if it will become a supernova in the future, and if so, what type of supernova it could generate. The results of this article can give astronomers more insight into this object.
