Some stars can show temporary brightenings compared to their usual energy output, a process in which they become intermediate luminosity optical transients (ILOTs). This article examines the causes of ILOTs and offers an explanation in terms of material falling onto the star, which leads to a jet feedback mechanism. The mechanism described in this article can offer insight into this process.
