Lunar-based Ultraviolet Telescope (LUT)
The Lunar-based Ultraviolet Telescope (LUT) is one of the scientific payloads onboard the Chang’e-3 lunar lander.
It started ultraviolet observations from the surface of the Moon on Dec. 14, 2013. A timeline of activities associated with this project is as follows:
July 2004: Concept Proposed
Feb. 2009: Project Approved
Sep. 2009: Engineering Model developed
Dec. 2011: Flight Model Tested
Dec. 02. 2013: Launch
Dec. 16. 2013: First Light
Jan. 2014 – Present: Astronomical Observations
