Coupled Scalar Field, Chameleon Effect and N-body Simulation TEXT SIZE: A A A

Speaker: Dr. Baojiu Li (DAMTP, Cambridge University)

Abstract: I discuss the effects of a scalar field coupled to cold dark matter on the large scale structure formation, in both linear and nonlinear regimes. For the latter we present the first full N-body simulation for coupled scalar field models, and our preliminary results show that the fifth force is perfectly parallel to gravity, with a fixed ratio to the latter, in some cases. However, the chameleon effect (that the scalar field resides at its effective potential minimum everywhere in space), if presents, could suppress the fifth force effect significantly. I will also briefly describe the simulation technique and algorithm.
