and young scholars.

On June 9, 2010, Dr. Robert W. Wilson, theNobel Laureate of Physics in 1978, was invited to make his second academic visit to the National Astronomical Observatories (NAOC), on the occasion of his attendance at the International Conference on the Frontier on Interstellar Medium at Peking University.

Dr. Wilson had a seminar with relevant NAOC scientists and young scholars on the latest development of astronomy as a whole and of radio telescopes at NAOC in particular. Dr. Xue Suijian, Assistant Director-General of NAOC, also joined the seminar. During this visit, Dr. Wilson was also interviewed by Herschel, a series program of China Central Television (CCTV) on large astronomical telescopes.

Dr Wilson’s first academic visit to NAOC was in November, 2008, when he delivered a very successful academic lecture on the discovery of cosmic microwave background radiation.

Dr. Robert W. Wilson is an American radio astronomer, born at Texas of USA on January 10, 1936. In 1964, he and Arno Penzias discovered the 3K cosmic microwave background radiation, which has been regarded as one of the four most eminent discoveries in the 20th century astronomy. Because of this discovery, they were awarded the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physics. In 1970, he and his collaborators discovered the molecule spectrum of CO in the Orion Nebula, indicating the birth of millimeter astronomy.
